Welcome to The Accelerate School (TAS)!

A Message From Our Leadership

Dear TAS community,

It is my honor and privilege to serve as principal of TAS. a trailblazing charter school with a storied history in the region. I am proud to help guide the TAS community, one of exceptional academic rigor and support, which prepares its students to be competent and confident learners in college, career, and beyond.

At TAS, we are committed to fostering the development of each child by equipping students with the tools and habits that will lead to their success in an ever-changing world. Students are encouraged to achieve excellence and explore learning opportunities that are engaging and relevant to life in the 21st century.

I look forward to continuing to work with my TAS family – new and old, building upon our great tradition of excellence. I know we can reach beyond even our greatest heights to accelerate students further than we ever have!

The Model School

TAS provides elementary and middle school education to students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade.

When TAS opened its doors in 1994, it was groundbreaking. The premise was ambitious, yet simple: good schools transform communities and community is created with shared values and common goals. In the decades since its founding, TAS became a national model for education reform.

Today, TAS continues to set high standards for educational achievement and possibilities. It provides a rigorous yet nurturing academic learning environment with high expectations of students and a strong belief that all children are gifted, and can learn and achieve their full potential.

Our staff and teachers, together with our parents, work to help ensure our students are prepared to succeed and thrive in high school.

TAS SPOTLIGHT:

After School Learning!

At TAS, we reach for the stars!

Learning here occurs everywhere - including outside our classroom walls through hands-on projects, field trips, arts programs, and various wellness activities.

In collaboration with ARC, TAS’s after school program, students are learning to expand their horizons and surmount new and exciting challenges - most recently by conquering a rock climbing wall!

TAS SPOTLIGHT:

📢 8th Grade Open Run Basketball

8th graders can join us on Saturday, March 25, at 9 a.m. for 5v5 basketball games! You can join us at the WAHS gym.

Be sure to sign up for free ahead of time by going to bit.ly/wahsbball! Please feel free to share with other 8th graders! All participants will receive a free T-shirt.

Grand Reopening of TAS Garden!

The garden will be an outside classroom where students will get hands-on lessons in science, math and nutrition.

We can't wait to see the positive impact this renovated outdoor space will have on our students this Spring. 🌱🌻

TAS Celebrates Black History Month

Last week, we were honored to witness a special West African dance and musical performance.

It was a fitting end to our month-long celebration of the many contributions and achievements of Black Americans.

Today our TAS Elementary students will put on their own production of The Nutcracker!

The performance is a joy to see, and we are happy that our students enjoy incorporating the arts into their curriculum!

Three TAS Students Receive Prestigious Colburn Music Scholarship

Every year, TAS nominates several students to attend Summer Encounter, a dynamic summer experience at the Colburn School which helps kids foster artistic self-expression.

This year, three of our TAS students displayed such artistic talent, the Colburn School has offered them a full scholarship to hone their talents.

TAS Receives Dr. Carol Connor Award for Improvements in Literacy Outcomes

TAS was honored with the Dr. Carol Connor Award from Learning Ovations as recognition of its success in improving literacy outcomes. This latest award is the result of our TAS scholars' hard work and our TAS team's constant devotion to ensuring student success. Way to go TAS!

TAS After School Programs

Serving grades K-6

Serving grades K-6

TAS students may participate in a safe, engaging and free after-school program KTAP. Along with a nutritious snack and homework assistance, students can explore:

  • Homework support
  • Visual & Performing arts
  • Music
  • Sports
  • Nutrition
  • And much more!

Applications available in the TAS main office.

Serving grades 6-8

Students receive free tutoring and homework assistance as well as opportunities to participate in a variety of clubs which vary year to year depending on student interest.

This program is made available through a partnership with Think Together to support student success.
